After the initial hype that WiMAX generated, it seems the interest is waning. WiMAX is a new technology and any new technology adoption takes time. But with Intel putting its weight behind WiMAX, the future may not be that gloomy for WiMAX.
The Indian market is already seeing some action on the WiMAX front. BSNL is rolling out a huge WiMAX network. This is in line with Andy's observation that the biggest opportunities for WiMAX are in the developing countries where Internet access is still not plentiful. Intel is readying $400 WiMAX ready laptops for Indian Market. This is the perfect price point for the developing world and would assist quick take off. It would be interesting to see how the market and the competition responds to this. We will keep you posted.
I am quite excited to see WiMAX gathering some momentum. It provides an alternative to the telecom companies. And, more options are always welcome :-)
