VoIP to get tremendous push - iPhone calling!!!

A major factor preventing the large scale adoption of VoIP is the complexity surrounding it. Although innovative companies such as Jajah, Rebtel, Truphone, among others have simplified the usage of VoIP to a large extent, it is still not simple as picking a phone and calling.

Help might just be at hand! Global IP Solutions (GIPS) plans to release a VoIP SDK for iPhone allowing developers to develop VoIP applications for VoIP. While AT&T prevents user to make calls over their 3G network, iPhone users could still use Wi-Fi network to save their precious minutes. iPhone truly is a great platform to leverage. With cumulative iPhone sales around 10 million, it truly presents a great opportunity to increase the VoIP penetration.

Another application, that seeks to leverage the iPhone platform to increase VoIP usage is iCall. iCall allows users to save minutes by using VoIP capabilities wherever wi-fi is available.

Although iPhone users have already jailbroken their phones to use VoIP, such standard applications greatly increase the potential of usage. Afterall, how many people have jailbroken their phones?
