Txt all your friends for FREE!!! [Tips]

Although I am not big on text messaging, I know it is a lifeline for many of you. Text message or SMS is probably the fastest means of communication other than speaking directly. But if you need to connect with your entire group (e.g., to invite your friends for a party) then text messages can cost a lot (depending on your plan). Not to forget the hassles of selecting numbers of all your friends and the possibility of missing someone.

Tatango, a group messaging service, has made it much simple and easier to connect with your entire group. After being in closed beta for some time, Tatango has opened doors for everyone (only US customers). The service is free (ad - supported) and you can sign-up here.

After signing up, you can send messages to your group using the website of your phone and the message will be delivered to the entire group. You can also provide privileges to some members to send messages. Although the service, as advertised, is best suited for message broadcasting making it ideal for social groups or organizations. But you can use the service for within group communication by providing message sending privileges to everyone in a group. Do not worry about your SMS inbox being spammed. You will receive messages only from the groups you have opted in to receive messages from. If you are website/blog owner, they also have widgets to embed on your site for your visitors to be informed about the updates.

Please note that Tatango does not charge you for sending or receiving messages, but standard messaging rates charged by your carrier would apply (which kills the deal for me). In a regime where the receiver has to pay for receiving text messages, it would be interesting to see how the service picks up. Overall it looks like a decent service and worth a try.
